What is an Individualised Living Option (ILO)?
Individualised Living Options (ILO) is a flexible support model funded by the NDIS that focuses on how you live, where you live, and who you live with. Unlike Supported Independent Living (SIL), which is often linked to a specific property or shared accommodation, ILO is designed around the individual and their unique needs.
ILO allows you to create a personalised living arrangement that reflects your goals, preferences, and lifestyle, combining formal supports with your natural support networks, such as family, friends, and housemates.
The NDIS introduced ILO to promote greater choice, control, and independence, encouraging smaller, more inclusive living arrangements that support community participation, meaningful relationships, and a stronger sense of belonging.
The Two Stages of ILO
Exploration & Design
We work with you to understand your vision for home, identify potential housemates or hosts, and map out the supports you need.
Key areas we explore:
- Your living preferences and goals
- Potential housemates, hosts, or support networks
- Daily support requirements
- Community and social connections
- Long-term housing aspirations
Implementation
We put the plan into action, providing ongoing monitoring and adjusting your supports as your life changes.
How we support you:
- Coordinating supports and services
- Assisting with the transition process
- Regular check-ins and progress reviews
- Adjusting supports when circumstances change
- Promoting stability, independence, and wellbeing
We offer several flexible pathways:
Host Arrangements
Live with a non-related person (a "host") who provides consistent support and companionship in a family-like environment.
Housemates
Live in your own home or a rental with friends or housemates who provide a mix of paid and natural support.
Living Alone
For those who value privacy, we design a "safety net" of on-call and scheduled supports so you can live independently without feeling isolated.
Supportive Neighbors
Live near a network of people who can provide drop-in support while you maintain your own private residence.
